Apple iTunes / App Store promo codes are 12 alpha character codes that allow you to download app/music/media at no cost.
Open Mac App Store app on Mac OS. On the left under "Quick Links" click on the Redeem link.
Once on the page shown below, enter the code and click Redeem to start app download.
